The Adventures of Pinocchio is a novel for children and teenagers published in installments by Carlo Collodi in the Giornale per i Bambini starting from 7 July 1881. A character that the author had killed and then resurrected due to protests from readers. But Pinocchio cannot be considered a simple novel for children, because it is also a criticism of the customs and society of the time. It is therefore a work that can be read with different interpretations, none more correct than the other, but all perfectly coexisting.
The Adventures of Pinocchio then became a television drama by Luigi Comencini, broadcast in 1972 in five episodes, with Andrea Balestri in the part of Pinocchio, Nino Manfredi in that of Special Data Geppetto, Gina Lollobrigida in the part of the fairy and the unforgettable couple Franco Franchi and Ciccio Ingrassia in the guise of the Cat and the Fox. The Adventures of Pinocchio from book to film by Comencini was not a disappointment. Collodi's novel is not easy to transpose into film, it is full of details, picturesque and unique characters. Despite the limitations of the technology of the time, the film managed to hold its own against the novel.
Perhaps as a television drama it had both less funding and fewer demands than today's Harry Potter, but Comencini's film still remains today, despite 40 years having passed, the best Pinocchio film made. The fairy tale written by Collodi is one of the saddest and most melancholic and so is the film: Comencini, with the characters chosen, the costumes and the setting and even the splendid soundtrack has infused the script with all the melancholy described by Collodi. The Adventures of Pinocchio , a 1972 drama, is a small masterpiece of television, which remains faithful to Collodi's text thanks to Comencini's professionalism and incomparable actors and good sets. How many of you have seen the drama and read the book? What impressions did it leave on you.
